Hawthorne Executive Search

Dave Swanson:
Dex One announced that David C. Swanson, the company's chairman and CEO, has retired effective May 28, 2010. The company's Board of Directors has initiated a search for a new chief executive officer to succeed Swanson.

"Having successfully guided the firm through our financial restructuring, the board of directors and I concluded the timing was right to transition leadership to a new executive who will guide Dex One through the next stage in its transformation," Swanson said in the company’s press release. "Over the last eight years we have taken the company from a small sales agent for telephone company yellow pages with just $75 million in annual revenue, to a multi-billion dollar market leader in print, online and mobile business search and marketing services. It has been my great privilege to serve with such a talented and committed group of people over the years, and I leave confident the company is well positioned to thrive as it enters this new chapter in its long and storied history."

The Board has established an Executive Oversight Committee comprised of three of the Board's current directors, Jonathan B. Bulkeley, W. Kirk Liddell and Mark A. McEachen, to lead the company on an interim basis. The Executive Oversight Committee will work closely with the management team to ensure an orderly transition until a permanent successor is appointed. Liddell will serve as the company's interim principal executive officer. Current Board member Alan F. Schultz will become non-executive chairman of the Board of Directors.

Swanson joined Dex One in 1985 as an account executive and held increasingly senior management positions during his tenure. He was named executive vice president of sales in 1995, executive vice president and general manager of proprietary operations in 1997 and vice president of corporate strategy in 1998 in conjunction with the company's spin-off from Dun & Bradstreet as an independent public company. He became president of Donnelley Directory Services in 1999, and served as president and chief operating officer of the company from December 2000 to May 2002. He served as CEO of the company since May 2002 and chairman of the company's Board of Directors since December 2002.
Fred Groser:
Newsday Media Group announced the appointment of Fred Groser as Senior Vice President of Advertising, effective May 10, 2010. Reporting to Terry Jimenez, Newsday Publisher, Groser will be responsible for oversight of all advertising sales.

Fred brings to Newsday a broad range of advertising sales experience. Most recently, he was President and CEO of ypOne Enterprises, a Houston based Yellow Pages print and online publisher. Prior to that he was COO and EVP of Ambassador Publishing and Media Group; Area President for Verizon Communications and EVP of Business Development for Commerce, Inc.

A native of Long Island, Fred has first hand knowledge of Newsday’s market, products and customers. “I have tremendous respect for the legendary Newsday brand, and I am excited about the opportunity to lead a great sales team in this vibrant market,” said Groser.

“Fred’s knowledge of sales, the Long Island market and strong managerial skills will be key in driving Newsday Media Group’s success as we move forward,” commented Jimenez.
Kathleen DeCaire Arden:
Wahlstrom, the IPG Mediabrands CMR unit announced the appointment of Kathleen DeCaire-Aden to Chief Executive Officer. As DeCaire-Aden steps into the role of CEO, Geoff Kehoe, President of Wahlstrom, has been promoted to President, Geomentum Ventures.

For the past eight years DeCaire-Aden has served as CEO for SMG Directory Marketing, a part of Publicis Groupe, and she is currently on the National Marketing Division Advisory Council. DeCaire-Aden will be part of the Geomentum Executive Committee, reporting directly to Geomentum CEO, Dave Walker.

As Wahlstrom’s CEO, DeCaire-Aden will be focused on two things: growth of the 50 year old Wahlstrom brand, and expansion of the multi-platform integration with the larger Geomentum hyper-local offering. To achieve Wahlstrom’s growth and expansion goals, DeCaire-Aden will leverage Wahlstrom’s expansive digital team, comprised of talent from Atmosphere BBDO, Organic, Reprise Media and Yahoo! to accelerate the hyper-localization of digital platforms like mobile, search and social to deliver on measureable sales and acquisition success for clients. In addition, DeCaire-Aden will be focused on developing strong relationships with key business partners across the publishing and digital space in order to deliver a strong future for Wahlstrom and clients.
Gordon Henry
Hostway Corporation, a global Web and cloud hosting services provider announced that Gordon Henry has joined the company as executive vice president and general manager. Henry will head the company’s small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) division, which focuses on providing Web hosting, Web site design, online advertising and other services to SMBs.

Henry is a veteran of the online search and local advertising industry. He was chief marketing officer at Yellow Book, where he led the development of the company’s online site, Yellowbook.com and oversaw the expansion of its printed directories. More recently, Henry led online video agency Spotzer Media's entry into the US. As president of Spotzer, he introduced video as a core offering of many top search and Internet sites.

Previously, Henry held marketing and business development positions at Knight Ridder/Philadelphia Newspapers Inc., where he led the launch and acquisition of new advertising businesses, and Columbia House Company, where he founded the company’s audiobooks division. He has an MBA from Wharton Business School, an MA from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA from Yale University.

Recently Hostway raised $110 million in debt and equity financing to support its continued growth plan. The transaction was led by private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson, along with Fortress Capital, Regiment Capital and Phoenix Life.
Georgia Scaife & Michael Dunn:
Supermedia Senior Vice President – Human Resources Georgia Scaife and Chief Information Officer Michael Dunn, are recipients of honors awarded for their leadership. Scaife is recipient of the 2010 Most Powerful and Influential Woman of Texas award from the Texas Diversity Council. This award was presented to Scaife based on her record of accomplishments and contributions throughout her career, demonstrations of leadership and commitment to community well-being. Scaife accepted her award at the recent Texas Diversity Conference in Dallas. Dunn is recipient of the 2010 CIO Ones to Watch award from CIO magazine and CIO Executive Council. This honor is given to 25 rising stars who bring leadership, innovation and value to their information technology organizations. Dunn accepted his award at the CIO Ones to Watch awards ceremony during the recent CIO magazine's Leadership Event.

Priscilla Clark:

Priscilla will be joining the YP Talk team as its new Director of Operations. In this new roll she will work on help bring content to the newsletter, be a marketing contact for the newsletter advertisers, and organize the subscriber functions of the newsletter.

Priscilla most recently was with the Wake County Public School System working with the special education and athletics departments.
